The BDA is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and highly organised individual to support the delivery of the Community Club Hub Programme and the wider Club Offer as well as the delivery of the Just Bowl programme in community settings. Our fundamental aim is to “Place Bowls at the heart of every community as an accessible sport for all”.
Your work will provide a key contribution to the BDA’s targets as agreed by Sport England. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the core of the sport by supporting and developing clubs and communities across the identified areas, working with key partners, and so ensuring both the long-term sustainability of the sport and to help reinforce and improve physical, mental, and social wellbeing well into later life.
The Bowls Development Alliance (BDA) is an organisation created to lead on the development of the sport of bowls through the clubs, counties, and coaches in England. Working in partnership with Bowls England (BE), the English Indoor Bowling Association Ltd (EIBA), British Crown Green Bowling Association (BCGBA), the English Short Mat Bowling Association (ESMBA) and Disability Bowls England (DBE) the BDA core purpose is to ‘sustain, grow and develop the sport in partnership with the Bowls family’.
Bowls is a popular sport with low barriers to entry and opportunities to participate throughout the year. It is a sport that people of all ages and abilities can actively enjoy recreationally through to elite competition. There are currently 300,000 club members in over 5,000 clubs playing bowls.
JOB TITLE: Club and Community Development Officer (South East)
HOURS: 37 hours per week
RESPONSIBLE TO: Club Development Team Leader
LOCATION: Home based with responsibility for the South East. You must live in one of the following counties – Kent, Sussex, Hampshire. Isle of White, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Greater London & City of London.
DURATION: This post is on a fixed term basis until March 31st 2027 and is subject to annual confirmation of a Sport England funding award.
Applicants will be expected to have demonstrable experience in sports development including working with at a grassroots level. You will need to be a people person with the ability to work alongside and support clubs, communities, and volunteers. Candidates will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the sporting landscape.
