About the Organisation

The Bowls Development Alliance (BDA) is a partnership organisation whose core purpose is to sustain, grow, and develop the sport of bowls in collaboration with the wider bowls family.

Established by the sport’s National Governing Bodies (NGBs) to channel Sport England investment, the BDA focuses on increasing participation while ensuring the sport remains inclusive and accessible to all. We champion collaborative working, support NGB-affiliated clubs and their volunteers, prioritise participant safeguarding, and promote best practice throughout the sport.

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised, and knowledgeable Safeguarding Manager to lead safeguarding practice across the sport. The postholder will work in partnership with the National Governing Bodies, supporting their Lead Safeguarding Officers to embed a proactive safeguarding culture across clubs and volunteer networks.

This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in strengthening safeguarding awareness, practice, and policy in a nationally recognised sport.

Key responsibilities include:

Contributing to national safeguarding communications, resources, and projects

Providing operational leadership in safeguarding

Supporting case management and safeguarding referrals

Support for safeguarding training and accreditation for club and county welfare officers

Offering advice and support to safeguarding enquirers

Building and maintaining strong relationships with external agencies such as the CPSU and Ann Craft Trust

The Person

We are looking for a safeguarding professional with:

  • Knowledge of legislation, government guidance, and national frameworks for safeguarding children and adults
  • Experience in a safeguarding role, ideally within sport or a related field
  • Understanding of case management principles and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and support volunteers and colleagues across the sport
  • A collaborative mindset, with a commitment to creating safe, inclusive environments

This role is ideal for someone who is confident working both independently and as part of a small team, and who thrives in a varied, purposeful role with national impact.
