Care Homes
Just Bowl has been funded to carry out research in care homes to determine the impact of the activity on physical activity levels and mental wellbeing. However, it has also been embedded in several homes as a fun activity that unites residents and creates a fun, social environment with a competitive undertone!
Rehabilitation Centres
Just Bowl has been introduced to hospital wards and rehabilitation day centres as it allows clients to participate in a light level of physical activity that helps to develop their cognitive skills whilst having fun. Just Bowl has also been delivered to residents at a low-secure mental health unit for men. The therapeutic nature of the game helped to calm the participants and was used to develop relationships between staff and residents.
Bowls Clubs
The Just Bowl equipment is a great addition to any club as it can be used to develop technique as part of a coaching tool. It is equally effective as an activity to attract potential participants to clubs and can be used in schools, community settings and at open days as a fun introduction to the sport of bowls. The equipment is also used by our development team due to its versatility.
Schools and Colleges
The Just Bowl equipment has been trialled in primary and secondary schools to great effect, receiving very positive feedback. Due to the demands of the Sport England funded work the team have been unable to work further in this area. Nevertheless, we are currently in the process of developing a schools and colleges offer.
Disability and SEN
Just Bowl have recently worked with a disability group in Cornwall with outstanding results. The group took the equipment to a new level by inventing themed delivery sessions, therapeutic music sessions, 10 pin bowls days (complete with hotdogs and popcorn) and Just Bowl birthday parties. The success of this work has prompted the team to develop this area of work further and also trial Just Bowl in Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools and colleges.
